Simon Kitson's

VICHY WEB

Welcome to Simon Kitson's Vichy web-site. This site was originally set up at a slightly different address in April 1999 . The new site has been considerably expanded and it is hoped that it will of use to students, researchers and scholars as well as those with just a passing interest in Second World War France. For the purposes of this site the expression 'Vichy' is used in a very broad sense and will also include some information on the period either side of the Vichy years. It also includes information on the French Resistance. On this site you will be able to find documents and historians' interpretations as well as some practical information (eg news of recent events and publications, contact details of researchers with an interest in the field, addresses of museums and archives, as well as links to various sites related to these themes ). To access any part of the site click on the underlined words below. Once you have accessed any page you can move around by using either the 'back' button (to take you back to the home-page) or the 'Navigator' (which is a copy of the table below reproduced at the bottom of each page of the site). I shall be up-dating the site at regular intervals. Please let me have any feedback at s.k.kitson@bham.ac.uk

The French department at Birmingham University welcomes applications from students wishing to pursue Doctoral research in any aspect of Twentieth Century war & society in France and particularly those wishing to study the history or culture of France in the 1940s. Some funding may be available upon application.

In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise the Department of French Studies at Birmingham University was one of only 6 French departments in the United Kingdom to achieve the maximum 5* grading (the others were Aberdeen, Cambridge, Manchester, Oxford, Royal Holloway)
