Mathew Ryan

Mathew Ryan is a young, Australian keeper with good reflexes and a very good set of feet. Despite him still being quite young, he can look back at three years of experience at a first division team, what provides him with the necessary composure and cool in goal.

Mathew Ryan was born on the 8th of April 1992 in Plumpton. He started his career playing for the local Plumpton/Oakhurst SC team, before playing in the youth division for Blacktown City. In 2010 his Australian breakthrough came when he signed for the Central Coast Mariners, a top team Down Under. He was the first pick in goal for over three years, in which he got chosen as best Australian goalie twice. Ryan also has two caps for the Socceroos, the Australian soccer team. Australian belief is that ‘Maty’ will become the next first pick in goal, following in the footsteps of Aussie legend Mark Schwarzer. Fun detail: Ryan played for the Australian Olympic team, where he was coached by former Club Brugge player Paul Okon, who is also a big believer of the young goalie.
