Original series are coming to CBS All Access sooner than we thought. I have learned that a new season of CBS’ summer staple, veteran reality series Big Brother, will air this fall on the SVOD service. Big Brother Season 19 will be 10 weeks, a little shorter than the show’s typical 13-14-week run, I hear. It will start shortly (within days) after Season 18 ends on the broadcast network with a 90-minute finale on September 21. It will be produced by the same team that makes the broadcast version and will feature a new cast of houseguests. CBS would not comment.
Speculation about a fall season of Big Brother started last week when the casting process was quietly launched, a move spotted by the blog RealityBlurred. The show’s official casting site continues to accept applications.
With Big Brother 19, CBS no doubt is looking to build on the success of the Big Brother 24/7 live feeds on All Access, which have been among the service’s most popular attractions, driving subscribers. A new installment of the voyeuristic reality series will keep the 24/7 live stream going. It is unclear yet how the live eviction episodes of Season 19 will be presented on the digital platform.
CBS All Access was supposed to launch original series with the January premiere of drama Star Trek: Discovery, the anticipated TV reboot of the classic sci-fi franchise, with a new series launching each quarter after that. With Big Brother 19, CBS All Access will keep the schedule of one new series every 3-4 months but will move the kickoff up by a quarter.
This will be Big Brother’s second installment airing outside of summer. The previous time was Season 9, which ran in midseason 2008 as a reaction to the writers strike, which left broadcast networks without scripted originals for a large portion of the 2007-08 season.
With Big Brother 19, CBS All Access will become the first subscription streaming service to launch a competition reality series, beating rival Netflix, whose Sylvester Stallone-produced Ultimate Beastmaster is now filming,
Well if this is the last season to air on broadcast tv, then I guess it’ll be my last season. I refuse to be forced to pay for their streaming service, not to mention it could possibly put me over my bandwidth limit costing me even more money.
No one said it was the last season to air on broadcast tv. It just makes sense to try a season on a digital platform since a built in audience is already paying for live feeds.
Agreed
this is bullshit
Ba Bye Big Brother; hope the shot in the foot recovers.
I agree!
I have never missed a season of big brother, that being said, seaon 19 just may be the first one I miss!
I actually think this is a really interesting idea, and it’s a relatively inexpensive show to produce, so it makes sense to try it for this platform. Low risk but potential big reward. It will be interesting to see if they air the first episode linearly, as they plan to with Star Trek. But first…can they please tell the contestants to stop shouting in confessionals and stop feeding them scripted lines? Just let them talk and ask them normal interview questions.
If they don’t ” feed them lines ” how will they be able to control the content.
This show is MORE expensive to produce if you are just making one show per week. While you need less story producer and editors, you still need the same amount of camera operators, directors, support staff, to make the world go round. Such a dumb, dumb idea.
Clearly you don’t understand how much actors get paid vs reality show contestants!
I don’t think that I’m going to watch next season, if this is true… :(
This is my last season.I be watching big brother
I think this is a really good concept… How can anyone be upset??? They are not taking BB away but instead adding a extra season in between the ones that air on network tv… I wonder will they still show after dark on pop too along with it?????
I agree Melody… not sure what the upset is all about…. give me more BB any day!!
I can’t believe all the whining here. The series will still be on the CBS network every summer. This is just a nice chance for fans of the show to be able to get more of it on CBS All Access in the fall when it doesn’t normally air. At $5.99 a month? That’s almost the price of a hamburger these days. Quit whining, sign up and enjoy a new season of Big Brother including live feeds.
If you think about it, there really was no other choice for BB in the fall other than All Access or POP. They weren’t going to give 3 nights to BB during the fall new show season
Already sent cbs my comment on this. They let their tv station go to sh*t already. Not paying them any more money.
I don’t think you understand how broadcast works…
Apparently you don’t either, or you might have finished that sentence.
Outside of America, if we want the channels, we have to pay for them.
Well looks like I’ll miss a season of BB. Haven’t missed one yet but not paying a ridiculous amount in Canada if we can even get it. Sad.
What streaming service is it suppose to be on? I need to know so I have time to get this service somehow?!
Cbs all acess
CBS All Access, which they’re already using to host the live feeds for this season.
are you serious?
This is a great idea more big brother cant complain about that and the all acess is so inexpensive it wont break wallet
Some of you people need to take some reading comprehension classes. Nothing indicates it’s leaving CBS’ broadcast network. This is just an ADDITIONAL season. BB 20 will air next summer I’m sure. If you don’t want to pay for CBS All Access, then yes you’ll skip the season. My plan is to get CBS All Access as the season ends, pay for 1 month and watch it all. I’ll do the same for the Good Wife spin off. My view is if something entertains me, I will pay something for it. But I agree, CBS All Access is not worth a year round subscription. I don’t need to pay to watch old episodes of JAG and Cheers and I have a DVR to record shows that currently air. If you’re going to drop BB on the regular network to “protest”, then you’re simply cutting off your nose to spite your face.
As long as they don’t stop BB over summer, I’m all for it! A fall season wouldn’t detract from the summer season at all. Tbh BB is probably one of the only shows that could get me to pay for their subscription service. It is the best reality show on TV. If they do this, I’ll definitely watch :))
Looks like I’ll be missing BB19 as CBS blocks Canada from All Access
bb Canada is a better production anyway.
it will probably get picked up in canada
Don’t whine about it being on All Access… it’s $6 a month. That’s one Starbucks drink. I’m willing to pay it to watch the live feeds, I’m definitely willing to pay to watch an entire series… plus All Access has a huge library of old shows available. You get a lot for that $6.
I will complain because they block All Access for non-Americans.
All of the people crying and complaining are ridiculous.
1.) The only reason they’re doing a fall season is because the All Access service did so well. Normally you would not have a fall season.
2.) They couldn’t air this season on Broadcast Television if they wanted to because the line-up is filled with their hit shows. (The only reason they had that ONE short winter season(season 9) in the past was because of the writers strike.)
Any reaction other then happiness we get an extra season this year is just, ignorant, and ungrateful grow up.
Hit shows?? What decade are you living in?
You sound like a CBS employee.
In comparison to everything else on broadcast TV? Yeah they are filled with hit shows,. They are among the crappiest shows on TV airing on a dispicable broadcast channel but much like McDonald’s they are extremely successful and popular, no matter how disgusting the majority of their products are.
Good point.
This is insane. Look at all of the followers that have been there since the first show. I am so disappointed in CBS Les an Julie. This really saddens me. Who all can afford to pay for this an some of the people who don’t have computers. I can’t sit at my computer for hours to watch this when you have a job. This will lose a lot of viewers including me. It’s not fair after 18 years of the public seeing this an now you are going to limit your audience. Bah humbug!!!!
come on there is nothing wrong with having another season this year its actually nice that they are giving us another season this year.
Who watches streaming TV on a computer these day? There are at least a dozen streaming devices that plug into the back of a TV to choose from. Some as cheap as 30 dollars or less (Chromecast), and most newer TVs come equipped with the ability (though some may not support CBS all access).
I do not like this idea especially since we can not get bb feed in Canada. Oh well bb Canada is a much better production the the American anyway. #bbcanada
When was the last good season anyways, season 14? I’m not paying for mediocre crap that leaves me bored and unsatisfied. Fire Grodner and Kass then we’ll talk.
It would be nice to watch if you made it easier for some to find the diary room segments better. other than that it will be boring as usual. especially if you keep picking the same low class people that you have been.
Make this season All Stars! Who wouldn’t want to watch that type of season
Love love love big brother. Watched since day 1. But now that I’m older I need them to do a senior citizens bb.and I need to be on it!! Ilet here’s only 3 things on my bucket list and this is one of them. Maybe I can be like a house mother. Any other ideas?
