Netflix Adds FilmDistrict to Its Streaming Service

Crime drama ‘Drive’ and sci-fi/adventure “Lockout” will be the first films delivered under the deal, starting next year

FilmDistrict has become the latest studio to sign onto Netflix's streaming service, offering up its movies in the pay-TV window starting next year.

The crime drama "Drive" and the sci-fi/action film "Lockout" will be the first movies offered under the new arrangement, which lets Netflix stream the films a few months after their DVD release.

"Netflix has a long and successful history working with (FilmDistrict principles) Peter Schlessel and Bob Berney, and I have long admired Graham King's amazing production success with movies like 'The Departed' and 'Blood Diamond,' which are among the most watched and highly rated movies of all time by Netflix members," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, in a statement.

Added Berney: "Netflix has strategically developed a bold business model and they love movies," added Berney. "They have cultivated a loyal audience that gives FilmDistrict great opportunities for growth."
