Inside No. 9: did you spot this hidden detail in every episode?

Series three of Inside No. 9 arrives on BBC Two on Tuesday the 21st of February. Keep your eyes peeled for this little detail…

Inside No. 9 episodes always merit watching twice, whether simply for the joy of the show’s surprising, original storytelling or to re-evaluate what you’ve seen in the light of a clever final twist.

If you’re on your second, third or fourth re-watch of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s brilliant anthology, here’s a new game to accompany you: spot the silver hare.

“It’s a nice little game we play,” Steve Pemberton told Den of Geek at the Inside No. 9 series three launch. “Because each episode is so wildly different there was nothing really linking them other than the fact they were all inside a Number Nine, I just thought it would be nice to have an object that you could hide and just have there on every set.”

Said object was this small statue of a hare, seen here on the mantelpiece of the flat in series one’s Tom & Gerri

“It’s just fun, there’s no real thing behind it,” continued Pemberton, who selected the statuette from a cardboard box of a dozen possible objects because it could feasibly pop up anywhere.

Well, almost anywhere. “Sometimes when it couldn’t be there, like in a karaoke booth [for forthcoming series three episode Empty Orchestra] you wouldn’t have that, so someone has to pull out a photograph of themselves and you see it behind them.”

There you have it.

To get you started, here’s the hare in the background of two further extraordinary series one episodes, A Quiet Night In and The Harrowing:

Spotting it in the rest of series one and two, and in the five new episodes starting on BBC Two on Tuesday the 21st of February at 9pm, is over to you.
