Don't shoot the messenger - Die Hard has officially been declared not to be a Christmas film.

Despite the film having a hardcore cabal of supporters who will swear on their loved ones that the 1988 action flick is the greatest Christmas film of all time, a YouGov poll decided to put the matter to rest for good. The people have spoken.

Only 31% of those polled actually said they consider films set at Christmas, but not specifically about Christmas, Christmas movies - meaning Die Hard is immediately out of the window. Indeed, you'll be hard-pressed to actually get an answer out of a Die Hard devotee explaining how exactly Bruce Willis killing a bunch of dudes conjures up that holiday spirit.

By contrast, 50% don't consider those types of film eligible, while 19% simple didn't know (or presumably care).

Thanks to YouGov's demographic breakdowns, it also became clear that there was a clear traditionalism vs. non-traditionalism divide: the clearest anti-Die Hard group was, of course, UKIP voters. There was also a gradual increase with age in the belief Christmas movies must be about Christmas.

You can see the breakdowns below.
