sensu stricto, sensu lato

The Latin terms sensu stricto (s.s.) and sensu lato (s.l.) mean ‘narrow sense’ and ‘broad sense’ respectively, and are sometimes used in taxonomy. For instance, Japanese knotweed s.s. is Fallopia japonica var. japonica, while Japanese knotweed s.l. includes other knotweeds
