EX BEES ROVER RETURNS

Posted on: Wed 16 Aug 2006

On Saturday last Griffin Park played host to one of our best known ex Bees although in truth he didn't even play one full First team game for the Club. Yet he spent the best part of two years on our books and during that time he displayed the talent that would eventually set him off on the road to stardom.

Bradley Walsh, or as some may know him better nowadays, Danny Baldwin of Coronation Street, was here to record a DVD entitled "Soccer Shockers". It entailed a day's filming at various points around Griffin Park with the final article ready for purchase either through the shops or online from 13th November.

But back to last Saturday and Bradley told me how emotional the return to his old stomping ground was for him. He reminisced over a number of stories about his time here, talking about his old mate Bob Booker and the end of season dinner/dances at The Winning Post in Whitton when Bradley would step up to the mike and entertain his mates and the supporters. Who was to know then that just over twenty years later he would be entertaining the Queen at The Royal Variety Performance and then becoming one of Britain's top soap stars.

But my meeting with him was far too short as I had to make the journey to Brighton to meet up with his old mate, BB, (who we had earlier linked up with on Bradley's mobile), who is now the Assistant Manager at Brighton.

But in parting Bradley sent his best wishes to The Bees for the season, and I'm sure it won't be long before he makes a return visit, this time when Brentford are playing at home.
