KBZ Bank temporarily shuts down all branches

KBZ Bank has closed all of its branches on February 8 due to a shortage of working staff, according to one of the bank’s employees.

The closure is a result of its bank branches - including its head office - being unable to conduct their daily operations following the participation of staff and personnel in the Civil Disobedience Campaign.

There has been no official announcement from the bank with regards to the closure nor have they commented on rumors of their staff participating in the campaign.

The bank’s call centre operator infomed The Myanmar Times that the bank's ATM and Mobile Banking services are still operating as usual but couldn’t confirm if the bank would resume operations tomorrow.

Other banks in the area also ceased operations for the day.

There are four banks located along Kyuntaw Road in Yangon and all four were observed to be closed.

A staff from Myanma Apex Bank (MAB) said many of their staff are also participating in the Civil Disobedience Campaign.

“A majority of our staff from the MAB head office in Yangon are participating in the movement and are not working on February 8. They have gone out onto the streets and joined the protests,” said the staff member. - Translated
