The Boat Race 2021 to take place on Sunday, 4 April 2021
London, 3 December 2020. The Boat Race Company Limited (BRCL) today announced that the 2021 Boat Race will take place on Sunday, 4 April 2021.
The 75th Women’s and the 166th Men’s Boat Race will take place, behind closed doors, in Ely, Cambridgeshire, reflecting the challenge of planning a high-profile amateur event around continuing COVID related restrictions as well as uncertainty regarding the safety and navigation of Hammersmith Bridge.
Following discussions with the BBC and consultation with East Cambridge District Council, and the Environment Agency, we are delighted to have strong local support, enabling us to hold the world-famous races in Ely on Easter Sunday.
Dr George Gilbert, Chair of BRCL’s Race and Operations Committee: “”We would like to thank the BBC, our broadcasting partner, for their continued support. We are all looking forward to bringing the 75th Women’s and the 166th Men’s Boat Race to sports fans on BBC 1. In the more intimate setting of the Great Ouse, there are exciting new possibilities for safely filming the event and we will be bringing you closer to the action, on and off the water.”
We are encouraging the millions of Boat Race fans to get involved at home and respecting any restrictions that may be in place at the time.
We are grateful for the support of our partners Chapel Down and Wainwright Golden Beer in helping us deliver The Boat Race in 2021.
