Dominic James Squatrito passed on 1/20/21. He was born April 9th 1938 to Salvatore and Mary Marcantonio Squatrito. Dominic was predeceased by his two brothers, Salvatore Jr. and Marcantonio Squatrito. Dominic leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years Carla; his sons Sandro, Sergio and his wife, Tracy. He also leaves his five granddaughters, Giuliana, Serafina, Sylvia, Aurelia and Gaia, who fondly called him "Nonno". Positive to the very end. Dominic will be remembered not only as having been a three letter athlete at MHS, Captain of the Wesleyan Football team, earning a Fulbright Scholarship and working in Africa with Crossroads Africa to provide clean drinking water, and then living in Italy traveling all around Europe on a motorcycle. He graduated from Yale Law School in 1965. He was a partner at the law firm of Bayer, Phelan & Squatrito where he defended the Town of Manchester in a HUD trial. He was appointed to the Federal bench in 1994 and was currently still serving. Anyone who met him, all had the same opinion of him as being the most positive, sharing and caring person that anyone could ever hope to meet. Positive to the very very end; just this week he said "Can you believe that I placed 6th in New England in pole vaulting, with a steel pole!" A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Cemetery, 365 Broad St. Manchester. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements. Due to the Covid pandemic there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Dominic Squatrito Manchester Scholarship fund, the Uncle that Nonno was named after. Dom was a larger than life figure at Wesleyan---a great athlete, campus leader, an accomplished student, a very nice individual and one of the two or three students who sparked active campus support for the Civil Rights movement. He made the world a better place. My condolences to his family. Rick Tuttle, Culver City, California

Carla, we are so sorry for your loss. Dominic was a cherished friend in law school. After law school he visited us in New York, and we had many wonderful times with him then and in the years afterwards, including your visit to us in those earlier years (and the wonderful pasta he sent to us). Dominic was always so positive, optimistic, and good company. After he became a judge he and I often talked about his passionate determination to provide justice for everyone who came before him. He left the world a better place. His memory is a blessing to us all.

I had the privilege of knowing Judge Squatrito when I worked at the federal court. He was a wonderful, compassionate, fair jurist and it was my pleasure and privilege to have known him. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

Hard to capture in words what the Judge meant to so many. I was blessed to serve as his law clerk for two years. He was wise, welcoming, and warm. He cared deeply for all those who appeared before him - lawyers and clients alike. He was beloved by his law clerks. My heartfelt sympathies to Carla, Sandro, and Sergio - who treated all of us like family. And sympathies also to Corinne - his assistant for decades - who ran his chambers like clockwork.

Judge Squatrito was a wonderful human being. He was close friends with my father. I remember my dad telling me when I was getting into politics that, if I’m lucky, I’ll be able to count on one hand the number of true friends that I’ll have at the end of the day. He always said Dom Squatrito was one of his true friends. My condolences to Carla, Sandro, Sergio and the entire Squatrito family. Ryan Barry
