KATHMANDU, July 15: In response to a concerning trend, Nepal Police Headquarters has taken decisive action against 208 police personnel who were found to have made TikTok videos while in uniform and subsequently posted them on social media platforms.

Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kuber Kadayat, disclosed that these actions were taken from 2022 to July 7, 2023.

Providing a breakdown, DIG Kadayat stated that 82 policemen faced consequences for their actions in 2020/21, 30 in 2021/22, and 96 in 2022/23, making a total of 208 officers disciplined during this period.

“We warned them at first. But if it is repeated, punishment will range from deducting one day's salary to withholding of promotion,” said DIG Kadayat.

This issue was addressed previously on October 8, 2020, when the police headquarters issued a clear warning to all personnel, cautioning them against creating videos, films, television shows, or TikTok content without official permission while in uniform. Despite the warning, the misuse of police uniforms on social media has continued for the past three years.

According to DIG Kadayat, on average, two to four policemen are being prosecuted daily for engaging in such activities.
