This has been a phenomenal vacuum. We spent a long time researching options and trying to decide if the price tag was worth it. We were happy with our corded upright vacuum and felt like it did a pretty good job, but we weren’t great about keeping up with the chore and wanted something that would just go on its own.

Here’s what we love:
- Works on a schedule via an app - we just let it run through the week when we aren’t home and the hard floors are constantly clean.
- It does a GREAT job picking up pet hair. It knocked our upright vacuum out of the park. One pass on hard floors is plenty. We have noticed that if we run it a couple times on the carpet upstairs, it’ll pack the collection bin both times. So it’s worth running a couple times on carpet if you have pets. It always looked clean after the first pass, but the vacuum is really good and it will find more.
- With a teeny bit of effort, one vacuum is enough for two floors. We bought a second docking station for the upstairs and periodically take the vacuum up there to run. I say a bit of effort because even that are we don’t do often enough. It’s easy and takes 1 min to do the transfer. It has multiple cleaning maps that it can run.
- it’s good about respecting the no go lines if you set them up. Sometimes we will just put down objects to block it instead and that’s easy.
- the collection bin is decent sized. It’ll do a whole floor of the house before it needs emptying and for the downstairs hard floors, we only need it empty it once per week even though we run it about 3 times. We typically take shoes off indoors though.

Things we don’t like - these are a stretch to come up with because we have truly been so pleased with the vacuum...
- it does not run quiet - it can be noisy so we don’t really like to run it when we are in the space.
- The app is not as intuitive as we would like. You can do a lot with the app and that’s helpful. But there are times we want to do something basic (like send the vacuum back to the docking station and not just pause it), and we haven’t been able to figure out how to do that. Overall we are happy with the app...it could just be a bit more user friendly.

Our conclusion: absolutely worth the price tag. We love it and would highly recommend this vacuum!

I purchased this product, took it out of the box, connected to the internet, and found that it couldn’t update. Error: "Server or file configuration error. Please contact customer care."

I contacted Neato Support, and was told this meant the unit was defective and needed to be replaced. Boxed it up, sent it back in exchange for a replacement. A week later, replacement arrives - turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, exact same error. Contact Neato Support again.

This time, they admit that it is a problem with the Neato software. This unit can no longer update correctly; there is no ETA when they expect it to work again. Check online, it has apparently not worked for months, and general consensus seems to be that Neato no longer supports this product, but doesn’t want to admit it.

Returned again, this time for my money back, bought a Roomba instead. Which is a shame, as I have been using Neatos for more than a decade now.

I ran the neato a couple of times before building the floor plan just to make sure basic functions were working. Everything checked out find. The battery lasted for much longer between charges than my old neato's did. The old neato which has been put upstairs now is a D8000 and is still working fine, but I wanted the no go lines and zoned cleaning of the new neato. The neato was able to map my approx 2800 sq ft downstairs on the first try with a couple of interim charges. The no go lines were easy to specify and are working very well. The zones work perfectly and its fun to send the neato off to a particular room and see it trundle off and get busy, then return to base. I wish the zones didnt need to be rectacular shaped - I have rooms which are not rectangular and they can't fit in a single zone without including other areas which I don't want to include. I also wish I could specify more than one zone for a single cleaning cycle - eg. click on zones 11, 12 and 13 and send neato off to clean all of those areas. You can only select 1 zone at a time. The neato is working on tiles, hardwood and carpet and transitions from one to another without issue including climbing up from the tiles to the 3/4" hardwood. I like the filter that comes with this neato - it is much easier to clean than the one that came with the D8000. There is a fine mesh fabric over the fins so dust doesn't get between the fins where its difficult to clean. I have a cat which sheds a lot and neato has always done a great job picking up the hair from all floor surfaces. The app is easy to use and I'm very pleased with the neato's battery life, ability to clean, intelligent route planning and overall functionality.

MeganR
5.0 out of 5 stars Works better than a roomba in our testing, and this model has longest run time for battery.

A bit noisy but that's how these are... strong suction takes the dirt in one run. Battery life is better for this model than the newer neato model. At one point I bought a roomba but found that it didn't get the dirt off the floor in a single pass (hence the somewhat chaotic pattern it uses to go over the floor multiple times). Chose the d7 because we like the 'no go' lines you can draw via the app. Normally I scoff at web interfaces for appliances, but it's really handy to draw a line around where my family typically leaves cords on the floor.
