In 2009, there were an esÂtimÂated 9.8 milÂlion resÂidÂents, up from 9.5 milÂlion counÂted in the 2000 U.S. census, the basis for The Times’ demoÂgraphÂic anaÂlysÂis for each neighÂborÂhood and reÂgion.

MapÂping L.A. began in 2009 with pubÂlicÂaÂtion of The Times’ map of 87 neighÂborÂhoods in the city of Los Angeles, reÂdrawn with the help of readÂers who agreed or disÂagreed with our iniÂtial boundÂarÂies.
But readÂers didn’t just comÂment on the boundÂarÂies; hunÂdreds sent notes — short esÂsays, really — on the places they live. They were inÂformÂatÂive, huÂmorÂous, thought-proÂvokÂing and ofÂten eloÂquent. Now we exÂpand that conÂverÂsaÂtion to the enÂtire county. Please use these pages to tell us more about the places you live.
