Bristol City Football Club can confirm the managerial appointment of Steve Coppell with effect from May 11th.

The former Manchester United footballer and England star has signed a 12-month rolling contract to become the club's new manager. Keith Millen will be his assistant, although - as previously announced - he will remain in caretaker charge for the final two matches of the 2009/10 season against Derby and Blackpool.

Steve, 54, was unveiled at an Ashton Gate news conference today but will not be in attendance for the club's final two matches of the season due to a long-standing family engagement.

Chairman Steve Lansdown told bcfc.co.uk: "I'm delighted that Steve has agreed to become the new manager of Bristol City FC.

"Steve arrives with a track record and pedigree that shows the ambition this football club has. We're aiming to play at the highest possible level.

"I'd also like to thank Keith Millen for all the hard work he has put in over the past seven games and I'm pleased he will continue to work with the first-team as assistant manager. Keith was also key in bringing Steve to Ashton Gate.

"I think we now have a very strong management team to take this football club forward."
