Summer hasn’t been kind to India this year. But the labourers of #Mirzapur cannot afford to pause their lives. Irrespective of the rising mercury levels, they must spend long days under the scorching sun, cutting wood and stones to feed their families. "I make a bandage out of leaves and rope, and wear it on my feet,” says 70-year-old Shyambabu, who earns a meagre Rs 100 on a good day and Rs 80 otherwise. The innovation, as ingenious as it may be, is a temporary shield. By midday, the self-made slippers fall off -- Shyambabu must now endure the unforgiving hot ground. Why doesn't he buy slippers? "I earn Rs 80 a day. Should I buy slippers or fill my stomach with the money?” he says. This summer, Divyanshu Upadhyay of #HopeWelfareTrust has joined hands with #TheBetterIndia to bring respite to daily wage labourers like Shyambabu through the #DonateASlipper drive. And we need your help. Donate now: https://buff.ly/3QjEt5f @hopepariwar | @divyanshu.hope (IG) PS. This #LabourDay, share this link far and wide so that, together, we can make a difference in the lives of labourers who are building our nation with their hard work. #Summer #Kindness #MayDay #Humanity #Heatwave #BeatTheHeat [Labour Day, Donate A Slipper, Summers, Beat The Heat, May Day, Hope Welfare Trust, Mirzapur, The Better India]

It all started when Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata bought a ten-acre piece of marshy land from the Nagpur king and set up Empress Mills in 1877. Jamsetji did not want his employees to work in the squalid conditions that he had seen in Lancashire’s cotton mills. So, at Empress Mills, he ensured proper ventilation and had an apparatus installed for humidifying air. Sprinklers were installed to reduce damage by accidental fires. He also set up a provident fund scheme, the first of its kind in India, and an accident compensation fund. The Tatas would go on to be the first employers in India to introduce the 8-hour working day (1912), free medical aid (1915), and workmen's accident compensation schemes, which were later, adopted as statutory requirements in India. #LabourDay #History #JamsetjiTata #Tata #Legacy #EmployeeWelfare #CorporateResponsibility #SocialReform #India [Labour Day, Jamsetji Tata, Employee Welfare, History of India]

With technology facilitating remote work, many people no longer adhere to fixed working hours. Communication and tasks are often carried out even when employees are away from the office. Australia’s ‘Right to Disconnect Bill’ aims to regulate whether bosses can contact workers beyond their working hours through calls, messages, or e-mails. With India’s work landscape changing rapidly, should India have a ‘Right to Disconnect’ law too? Share your thoughts in the comments. #MentalHealth #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkLifeBalance #LabourDay #MayDay #EmployeeRights [Labour Day, Work-Life Balance, Right to Disconnect Bill]
