UFC's Super Bowl weekend event moving to New Jersey in 2014

NEWARK — Looks like Super Bowl weekend in New Jersey is going to get rowdy.

The UFC's annual Super Bowl weekend event will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, ending its decade-long run in Las Vegas, mmajunkie.com reports.

The UFC event is slated for Feb. 1, 2014, the day before Super Bowl Sunday, and puts another big event on the calendar at the Prudential Center, which also will host Media Day on the Tuesday before the Super Bowl. The Pru Center is no stranger to mixed martial arts, having hosted multiple UFC cards, including a pay-per-view event this April.

The move comes as no surprise to to Jamie Penick, editor in chief of mmatorch.com.

Fox, which is set to broadcast the upcoming Super Bowl, is also UFC's current television partner and is expected to heavily promote pay-per-view cards surrounding the nation's traditionally most-watched televised event, according to Pernick.

The move was announced during a video presentation at the UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas on Friday, which detailed FoxSports 1's coverage surrounding the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Already, excitement surrounding the Super Bowl has brokerage companies and travel operators snapping up hotel rooms across northern New Jersey. In May, vendors flocked to Secaucus to show off their wares at the Big Game Experience Conference and Expo in hopes of cashing in on the festivities surrounding the Super Bowl.
