UPDATED, 12:13 PM: Universal said today that the Movie Formerly Known as A Meyers Christmas has been retitled Almost Christmas. True to the new moniker, the family holiday comedy produced by Will Packer is keeping its November 11 release date. The ensemble pic from director David E. Talbert tells the story of a beloved patriarch who asks his family for one gift this holiday season: to get along. If they can honor that wish and spend five days under the same roof without killing one another, it will be a Christmas miracle. The pic stars Kimberly Elise, Omar Epps, Danny Glover, Romany Malco, Mo’Nique, Nicole Ari Parker, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Jessie Usher and DC Young Fly.
PREVIOUSLY, May 14: Universal Studios will handle US Distribution for the criminal biopic Legend, from Studiocanal, Working Title Films and Cross Creek Pictures. The film will see a multi-platform release in the US beginning Friday, October 2 2015. Starring Tom Hardy in a dual role as notorious gangsters Reggie and Ronnie Kray, Legend depicts the rise and fall of the real-life twin brothers who terrorized and captivated London during the 1960s. Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri, Tara Fitzgerald and Taron Egerton costar. Written and directed by L.A. Confidential screenwriter Brian Helgeland, Legend is produced by Working Title Film’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, with Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver, Chris Clark and Quentin Curtis.
Universal has also set a release date for A Meyers Christmas. Originally titled A Meyers Thanksgiving, the family comedy, from writer/director David E. Talbert (Baggage Claim) and producer Will Packer concerns an estranged family who reunites over Christmas for the first time since their mother died. It will hit theaters November 11, 2016.
