An Update On ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 With A Fantastic Casting Decision

Following

Wednesday season 2 was one of the projects Netflix was going to go the hardest on in the wake of the writers and actors strike, alongside Stranger Things season 5. Wednesday is one of the biggest hits ever on the service, so they want to get out more seasons without the sort of interminable wait we often see from Netflix productions. But there’s going to be one anyway.

We still have absolutely zero clue about a release date for Wednesday season 2, as Netflix has not given even a whiff of a hint about that. Given that Wednesday season 1 debuted in November of 2022, it feels like with zero information we are likely to go at least two years without a new season of the show. I suppose you can blame the strikes for some portion of that, but if we’re getting to what, 2, 2.5 years? That’s kind of inexcusable for a show like this.

However, we do have one of the first bits of news about the season. And it’s good! Namely, that would be the casting of a new addition to the show, Steve Buscemi. Variety’s sources say he will play the new principal of Nevermore Academy, where the show will remain, and after the (spoilers) death of the original headmaster played by Gwendoline Christie.

Again, we don’t know any details about Buscemi, but like the other Nevermores, he likely has some sort of powers. I’ve seen jokes that Buscemi should simply play himself, principal Steve Buscemi, as the actor would fit into the universe at baseline.

Buscemi, now 66, has not been in all too many high-profile projects as of late. He was in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm during its last season. He has done a good amount of voicework the last few years, Krapopolis, Spongebob, Digman, Hotel Transylvania, Rick and Morty, Scooby Doo and more. His main project has been Miracle Workers, a TBS comedy where he starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe for 37 episodes. Apologies but I have literally never heard of this until this minute.

Regardless, Buscemi will no doubt be a great addition to Wednesday. I do wonder if any of the delays have to do with Jenna Ortega’s absurdly full dance card. She starred in Scream VI after Wednesday aired. Then Finestkind and Miller’s Girl. She’ll star in the upcoming Beetlejuice movie and has four other projects in production, plus Wednesday itself. Yeah, that show really did wonders for her. But her availability? Not so much.

We’ll look for more information soon from Netflix but I would not get your hopes up for a release anytime soon. Probably not even this year.
