Seascape Belgium is excited to join the LandSeaLot Consortium to help defragment land-sea interface observation! Follow LandSeaLot to learn more about this crucial project. Land-sea interface observations are important in order for communities to make informed decisions, evaluate trade-offs, discuss desirable futures, and take action on the challenges we face today such as #climatechange #pollution and #biodiversityloss.
📢Let’s Observe Together! 🚀 Introducing LandSeaLot – a new Horizon Europe project. 🌍 Our mission? To co-design a comprehensive observation strategy and implementation plan for the land-sea interface, enhancing observation capabilities while integrating models, in situ, satellite data, and citizen science. 👨🔬 🔬 LandSeaLot aims to foster collaboration between scientists, citizens and initiatives such as Copernicus, ESA, EEA, GEOSS, EMODnet, and the European Digital Twin of the Ocean to address pressing societal challenges including carbon flux, plastics pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change adaptation. 🚣♀️ But that's not all! Through our engagement with citizen science networks, LandSeaLot sets out to empower citizens to advance scientific investigations through low-cost sensors and mobile phones. ⚗ Moreover, our NINE LandSeaLot Integration Labs (LILs) will serve as testing grounds for selected technologies, enhancing observation techniques across the Black, Aegean, Mediterranean, Atlantic, North, and Baltic seas. Our commitment doesn't end there. Data generated through LandSeaLot will be open and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), ensuring its availability and transparency to all stakeholders. 🏞 Lots of exciting updates coming soon. 🌊 Join the conversation! 🌐 When it comes to the problems faced by our oceans today, what's your stance? Are you in favour of minimising our energy and resource demands, or do you lean towards investing in technology to confront these challenges? Let us know in the comments. Dive deep into these critical questions at the Millennium Film Festival 👉 https://lnkd.in/dP3AmUJi , happening from March 15th to 22nd in Brussels, where two thought-provoking films Against the Tide( watch trailer👉https://lnkd.in/eEMPiUzs) , and Deep Rising ( watch trailer👉https://lnkd.in/eiGkxutu) explore the present and future of our oceans. 🌊🎥 The ocean, our planet's largest living space, is a priceless resource that demands protection. However, it is now facing unprecedented challenges. Deep-sea mining promises a new energy revolution emerging from 4000 metres below, fueling electric vehicles and 'green technologies,' yet it could pose devastating and long-term risks to countless ecosystems. 🌍⚡ Similarly, advanced technologies aid fishermen in catching diminishing fish stocks, sustaining coastal communities and industries. But, in our race to satisfy our immediate needs, are we depleting the stocks essential for the future? 🤔🎣 At Seascape Belgium we are making waves for a sustainable future: we contribute to the Mission of Restoring the EUs Oceans and Waters. #OceanDecade Contribution 🌊 Join us on 20 February at the Ocean Science Meeting 2024 for a workshop on the Ocean Decade Data and Information Strategy to help shape the future of global ocean data! 🪸🌐 Designed for ocean data producers, data custodians, decision makers and industry, this workshop will discuss how to build a trusted, inclusive, and interconnected global ocean data and information system. Participants will learn standards and best practices that can be implemented in local environments to align with this strategy and contribute to the data and information ecosystem. We are also seeking inputs from participants on a range of topics, such as (meta)data standards; data provenance and attribution; equitable access; data and resource gaps to fill; and capacity development, to shape the strategy action plan, which will be unveiled at the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference on 10-12 April in Barcelona. 🗓️ 20 Feb, 12:30-14:00 CST ➡️ https://ow.ly/Y92x50Qsbxn #OSM24
