❗ Sargassum has already started to arrive on the Caribbean’s shores, and this year might be a bumper year according to experts. 🚨 Every year, mass strandings of sargassum in the Caribbean and along Atlantic coasts wreak havoc on the local economy and tourism and on the health of 70% of the Caribbean population. 🤝 To support local players in their fight against this pollution, CLS is participating in SeSaM, a #Space Climate Observatory program along with partners @IRD, @mercatorocean and our parent company @CNES. 🛰 The SeSaM project will provide all countries and territories in the Tropical Atlantic Ocean region, from the Caribbean Sea to Western Africa with access to satellite observations and model forecasts, enabling them to monitor sargassum and help manage and mitigate strandings. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eucZqPjF 💡 SeSaM benefits from CLS’ expertise used to develop their online tool SAMtool. SAMtool detects sargassum beds at sea in real-time and provides: 🔵 Daily detection of sargassum over the entire Atlantic and around the Caribbean coasts 🔵 Daily drift simulations to predict trajectories, the probability of algal landfall and wind and current forecast data. 🌊 With sargassum already affecting beaches in Southeast Florida, the Southern Caribbean islands (of Trinidad, Grenada, St Vincent or Barbados), and will soon be arriving in Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, we’re offering access to SAMtool for one month completely free of charge. 👉 Click here to sign up: https://lnkd.in/ezPuNpvw 👉 Click here to sign up: https://lnkd.in/ezPuNpvw
