Reference Previews are now available on the majority of Wikipedias, and some Wikivoyages. But currently, there are still around one hundred wikis, where most people are not seeing Reference Previews. That is because those wikis have a gadget set as the default for previewing references. Using the same feature across wikis will make the user experience more consistent and the software easier to maintain overall.
If your wiki has the Page-Previews Popups extension installed (a prerequisite for Reference Previews) and also has a gadget set as the default for previewing references, we suggest removing that default flag. If your wiki wants to make this change, you can remove the default flag yourself or ask the Technical Wishes team to remove it for you.

Removal of the default flag on smaller wikis
The default flag will be removed centrally on some wikis. Criteria:
- Wikis with three or less interface-admins,
- which are also global-sysop wikis.
All affected wikis were contacted weeks before this change and were able to voice their concerns on this talk page by February 12. One wiki did.
Exception: nywiki was contacted on Feb 16 and gave their thumbs up.
