Liverpool Hope Honours Rolf Harris |
Hope honoured artist and musician Rolf Harris on Tuesday 26th January, as part of its Winter Graduation Ceremony. Receiving a Doctorate of Letters (honoris causa), Rolf joined more than one hundred people receiving degrees at the ceremony, held in the University's recently reopened Hope Chapel on the Hope Park campus. During his speech, Rolf spoke of his grandparents' emigration from Wales to Australia and his father and uncle's subsequent return to Europe to fight in World War I. Addressing the graduates, Rolf said 'The greatest gift my parents gave me was the belief that you can do whatever you want to do, as long as you know what you want to do and do your homework.' After the ceremony, Rolf spent time chatting to students, their parents and University staff, while taking time to celebrate Australia Day.
