PHNOM PENH, June 30 (Xinhua)-- The United States government through its embassy in Cambodia has helped Cambodian poor students in English program.

In a statement released Wednesday, the U.S. Embassy said since its inception in 2004, some 44,000 students in over 55 countries have participated in English Access Microscholarship program.

"In Cambodia alone, program has sponsored about 485 students, worth a total funding of 364,798 U.S. dollars," it said in the statement.

The program has been implemented in seven provinces of Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Ratanakiri, Kampot, Pursat, Battambang, and Phnom Penh municipality.

"The English Access Microscholarship Program in Cambodia seeks to support the educational development of indigenous minority students in the country through general English courses for a period of two years," the statement said.

English and Chinese are considered the most attracting foreign languages in Cambodia today.
