Dear Ambassadors,

Dear Colleagues,

The President of the General Conference of UNESCO condemns the terrorist attacks that took place during the night of Friday 13 November in Paris, France, and expresses, on behalf of the General Conference of UNESCO, which notably comprises 195 Member States and 10 Associate Members, his deepest sympathy and prayers for the victims, his condolences to the French people and profound solidarity with its Government.

“Terrorists were not born terrorists, but have become so. Human beings are not born evil but are oriented in evil ways. This is not inevitable and this is not a fatality. More than ever, UNESCO should stand at the forefront of the fight against the root causes of terrorism: by enhancing quality education for all, disseminating scientific knowledge, safeguarding and promoting our cultural heritage and creativity, advocating for the free flow of information.”

The General Conference of UNESCO is supportive to the French Government, his host Member State, in this critical moment.

Stanley M. Simataa

President

38th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO
