Born in West Palm Beach, he played college golf at Florida State University, where he was a three-time All-American.

After failing to advance through the then-Web.com Tour, his management group suggested playing overseas on the European Challenge Tour. Soon after, he claimed his first professional victory on his eighth start at the 2012 Challenge de Catalunya.

Needed just ten events of the 2013 Challenge Tour season to earn immediate promotion to the DP World Tour, with the all-important third victory coming at the Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts. Has since described his time on the Challenge Tour as some of the best days of his life.

Continued his meteoric rise by capturing his first DP World Tour title at the Turkish Airlines Open in 2014 and earned a maiden PGA TOUR title the following year at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Made his Ryder Cup debut at Hazeltine in 2016, winning three points from four matches as USA triumphed.

Became the first man in 29 years to successfully defend the U.S. Open title when he triumphed at Shinnecock Hills in 2018, following his maiden Major victory at Erin Hills in 2017.

He then won his third Major Championship in just 15 months when he triumphed at the 2018 US PGA Championship at Bellerive, before successfully defending that title a year later at Bethpage Black Course. Two months later, he added to his incredible trophy haul with a first World Golf Championships victory at the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational.

Made his third Ryder Cup appearance at Whistling Straits, helping the United States win back the Ryder Cup as he earned two points from four matches.

Won his third US PGA Championship and fifth Major title in 2023 at Oak Hill, finishing two strokes ahead of Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler.
