Amazon has donated $1 million to the Wikimedia Endowment, a fund that keeps the online encyclopedia Wikipedia running.

In a press release, the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that hosts Wikipedia, said Amazon’s donation reflects a growing trend of companies that use the site’s content giving money to keep it going. Wikipedia relies heavily on donations and contributions from users.

Amazon’s digital brain, Alexa, uses Wikipedia as one of many sources to answer questions. Amazon said the Alexa team and the Wikimedia Foundation share a similar goal: making it easier to locate and share information.

Amazon has added the ability to donate to Wikipedia through voice commands. After saying the phrase, “Alexa, donate to Wikipedia,” the digital assistant walks through the steps and verifies how much the user would like to give.
