A design and video production company born out of the pandemic

PixelBull creates stunning designs and videos for it's clients — specializing in award winning graphic design, web design, video editing, and motion graphics.

How did you first start your business?

When COVID-19 first hit, a lot of in-house designers were laid off as company’s scrambled to cut costs. But those companies still needed design work done, then and now. That’s why we decided to seize the opportunity to innovate a whole new way of providing top-quality designers to companies with a variety of design needs. Today, we offer all the benefits of a full-time, remote design team at a competitively low cost.

What services do you provide?

We provide unlimited design work, including video editing and motion graphics, for a flat monthly price. Revolutionizing the design and video-editing industry, we provide USA-based designers at a fraction of the cost. Instead of charging by the hour or the project, we work on a subscription basis so that our clients never have to worry about budgeting for individual design needs throughout the month.

How did you hone in on your name?

PixelBull means a few different things. I always knew I wanted to use the word “pixel” in our company name, since pixels are such a core element of what we do—web design, graphic design, video editing, and motion graphics. The word “bull” references our desire to push through the aggressive pricing of design agencies that charge high hourly rates, and we also feel strongly about providing a “no bull” guarantee for our work.

How do you make a small business bigger?

It’s important to remember to take small steps before big steps. I’ve always loved the saying “think globally, work locally,” and I think this is one of the keys to growing a business. Having functional systems set up for each aspect of your business is crucial. Whether its hiring, advertising, content creation, or sales, everything needs a system. When small businesses start out, they typically don’t have these kinds of systems in place, but if you take the right incremental steps toward growth, everything starts to fit together like a puzzle.

What major challenges have you had to overcome?

Hiring has been one of our biggest issues. The work we do requires extreme skill, talent, and most importantly, creativity, and it can be hard to find designers who meet these standards. We’ve made the mistake of hiring based on outstanding portfolio examples, only to discover that the work doesn’t always measure up. As we’ve grown, we’ve begun systemizing our hiring process. We now ask candidates to demonstrate a few role-related tasks before deciding whether to interview. This functions as a filter and allows us to streamline and optimize our hiring process.

How do people build a brand online?

The most important thing to remember when building a brand — whether its online or offline — is to focus on the brand itself rather than on product promotion. A brand encompasses everything, from your domain to your logo, your color scheme, slogan, and social media. All these elements should align with your brand’s style, message, and aesthetic. Consumers are constantly inundated with branding, but the ones that truly stand out have the edge of consistency and creativity. Put simply, be memorable and be consistent.
