If you haven't already seen it, here's the link to my original TikTok which explains a little bit about the birth of this project. I also have an FAQ section further down the page, if you'd like to learn more.

I am so excited to be able to share this fan edit with those who have a Disney Plus membership! I have done this re-edit out of the love I have for Star Wars and the excitement I have for the new content we’re getting from Lucasfilm.

The Obi-Wan show, in my opinion, suffered from things that were easily fixable in the script and in the edit... awkward pacing, whole scenes that ultimately amounted to nothing, goofy dialogue and directing choices, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and change what I could. I want to be very clear, this is my own artistic interpretation of how these scenes could be strung together to make something that works better for me personally.

This is all done as a fan, for the fans, and I am not making any money from it. I really hope you enjoy this 2.5 hr movie interpretation of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Show.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD

Once you click on which version you’d like to download (depending on the needs of whatever device you’re using), it'll take you to a WeTransfer page to download and you’ll input the password for the chosen link. Each password can be found above the download button. There are a lot of people who have said that the file doesn’t show video on their device which may be due to it not being able to read the HDR footage or the HEVC codec, if this happens to you I would suggest trying a different device, using VLC media player to play the file, or downloading one of the SDR versions. The subtitles and cover art do not need passwords in order to download.

PRESS COVERAGE

There has been a huge press buzz around my edit, which has been super weird and unexpected... most kind, some not so kind. I'll link some of the biggest ones below: (ScreenRant's article is my favorite)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the difference between the 2.1 version and the 2.0 version?

A: Only a few things, I called it 2.1 because it’s basically the same edit as the 2.0 version with just a few fixes:

Fixed Frame Stuttering - One of the biggest criticisms that I got from the last version was some frame stuttering happening in the file. It took me a while to figure it out but I was able to fix it. The problem was with the source files that I had but it should be pretty smooth now.

HDR - Another thing I was able to figure out was delivering the movie in HDR (High Dynamic Range), which gives the best color possible. This is the color profile: BT.2020 PQ (9-16-9). If you’re watching it and it seems gray or washed out, then let me know. Most screens should be able to play HDR files even if the screen wasn’t made for it, but if it doesn’t look right then you might have to google how to get your device to play HDR files or settle for downloading the SDR files.

5.1 Surround Sound - I was able to provide a 5.1 surround sound mix that has been tested by a few nice people from the Discord server and it should be good to go! If you don’t have a 5.1 setup you can always download the stereo versions.

Added Lightsaber SFX - Another complaint I got from the last version was the lightsaber battle in the beginning lacking clear sound. This problem came from my process of stripping the original dialogue from the scene to change the music. So in order to get the lightsaber sounds back I had to do it all manually and create my own sound design for that scene.

More Smoothing of Transitions - There were a couple of transitions that were continuing to bother me, so while I was working on the frame stutter issue I also worked on those, I doubt many people will notice, but I needed to do it for myself.

Subtitles - I also finished the English subtitles for this version and unfortunately these subtitles are timed for only the 2.1 version. If you try to use these subtitles for any other version you might have downloaded then it will be out of sync, so make sure that you are using these subtitles with Obi-Wan Kenobi - The Patterson Cut 2.1 4K HDR only!

A New Dedication - A few days after I released the 2.0 version, my Aunt passed away. She was the biggest Star Wars fan and is one of the main reasons why I grew up loving Star Wars so much, so I put a title card in the beginning dedicating this Obi-Wan Kenobi movie to her. A few weeks before she passed, we watched the first version of my Kenobi movie in her hospital room together. She loved it, and it’s an experience I will cherish forever. I also showed her some of my plans for the 2.0 version and how I was going to improve it. She was never able to see these new versions but I know she’d love them just as much if not more!

Q: What is different between the 2.0 version and the first version and why aren't they available anymore?

A: The first version was released July 2022 and I'm very proud of it, hundreds of thousands of people saw it and I'm so grateful. I'm sure you can still find it somewhere but I rather you watch the latest version (released in March of 2023, the only version available to download on my site). In January of 2023 I released the 2.0 cut which is almost identical to the 2.1 cut except for a few minor things. 2.0 is also not available from me anymore. Other than the quality upgrade, here are some of the major differences between the first version and the 2.0 version:

Opening Crawl - After much debate with myself, I started the 4K version with an opening crawl. Writing it was honestly one of the hardest parts of the edit.

New Beginning Scene - a brand new Mustafar scene after the opening crawl so that I could put the flashbacks there and not have to worry about it later when the pace really picks up.

De-Aged Anakin - The flashbacks now include de-aged Anakin done by Darth Porg on YouTube.

Classic Wipe Transitions - I smoothed out some transitions here and there, adding the famous Star Wars wipes when appropriate.

Reworked Music - I got a lot of complaints that the music was too loud or didn't fit in some places so I did my best to fix that.

Leia Roasting Her Cousin - I've added back in some of the beginning Leia scenes, the biggest one being Leia and her cousin (I think I reworked it in a way that makes it feel a lot less goofy, which is why I originally took it out.)

Vader Breathing - I fixed the scene where Disney forgot to put Vader's breathing sound effects when he's talking to Reva's hologram for the first time.

End Credits Scene - I decided to put Qui-Gon's appearance after the credits. I know, I know, Star Wars movies don't do that. I didn't want to cut it out but I also felt that Kenobi's "Hello there," to Luke was the perfect ending. So Qui-Gon was booted to the end credits.

Scrolling Credits - Speaking of the credits, I did my best to combine the credits of all 6 episodes so it feels more streamlined and even scrolls like a movie!

Other Stuff - I did a lot of little tweaks whether it was cutting out certain lines, changing the music, or rearranging scenes, but for the most part I'll say that the edit still feels very much like the first one, but to me it is the definitive cut.

Q: Are there subtitles?

A: Yes, you can download them above, but make sure you’re using this with the 2.1 version, otherwise it will be out of sync.

Q: Is there a Spanish Version?

A: Sí ¡Haga clic aquí!

Q: Did you cut Reva out completely?!

A: Nope. Nor did I want to. My intention was to actually make her a much stronger character. Like a lot of things in Star Wars, I think Reva is a really cool concept for a character but I don't think she was executed very well. In my original TikTok I started to talk about WHY I think Reva didn't work well in the show. I think our feelings about a character are influenced by how other characters feel about them. Reva was constantly talked down to and belittled by the other Inquisitors, constantly told that she was being too reckless, told that she was a fool for still wanting to catch Kenobi. We were informed by those characters that she was being annoying and too much. When editing her arc, I did my best to cut those things out so she was a more commanding presence. I want to be very clear that I do not condone any Reva-hating! Moses Ingram did a great job with the material she was given to work with.

Q: Do you think you know better than the professionals that worked on the show?

A: Not at all! I know that everyone who worked on this show did the best that they could do. I know that sometimes working on huge projects like this it's hard to fully realize your vision with budget constraints, tight deadlines, studio interference, etc. All of this said, I am a firm believer that you can and should be critical of things that you love. I made this edit because there were things I wanted to fix for myself and I posted to TikTok to see if anyone else had any interest in the work I did. It turns out a lot of people felt the same way. I hope that my edit doesn't at all take away from those who really loved the series as is, that's totally cool with me.

Q: Where is the Qui-Gon Force Ghost scene?

A: He was always there, you just were not ready to see. But seriously, he’s in there, just in a post-credits scene.

Q: Where can I watch Boba Fett - The Pentex & Patterson Cut?

A: Click here to learn more about viewing options for Boba Fett Book I & II.

Q: What are you doing next?

A: I'm currently working as a VFX artist on an indie feature film, but my next personal project is called The Caligo Cuckoo which will be a 10-15 minute short film inspired by the old Twilight Zone episodes, Here is the description: "Stumbling into an empty bar in the middle of a stormy night, drunken Rick tries to ignore his life's problems. A mysterious man appears from the shadows to offer Rick a better life... All he has to do is win a game of pool. If only it were that simple." If you follow my social media above you can stay up to date with the projects I'm working on.

THE RESPONSE & COMMUNITY

I never thought that anyone would interested in the fan projects that I worked on for myself but after posting on TikTok about my Obi-Wan edit, I was very surprised at the sheer magnitude of people that wanted to see my personal take on what these stories could look like as films.

I am so incredibly grateful for everyone that has said such kind things. Because of the attention that my fan edits have seen, I've been a guest on a few podcasts, the news, written about in Variety, IGN, ScreenRant, and more, and I've been contacted by hundreds of thousands of Star Wars fans that love my work.

So I just want to thank you all so much and, if you were able to see these fan edits, I hope you enjoyed them. May the Force be with you!

– Kai
