Current OCM-related Sporting Roles & Achievements:

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria won the election of the President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia unopposed at the OCM General Assembly, held on 5 May 2018. Simultaneously, he also holds the following positions:

• President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Malaysia;
• Chairperson of the OCM Trust Fund;
• Chairperson of the OCM Selection Committee;
• Chairperson of the OCM Media Committee.

During his presidency, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria seeks to improve the OCM’s professionalism and enhance the relationship between OCM and the various stakeholders. He is also committed to improving governance at all levels to the continual forward moment of the OCM and Malaysian sports in general.

As Chairperson of the OCM Trust Fund, Tan Sri (Dr.) Dato’ Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria had put the interest and needs of the OCM Affiliates at its core. Since 2018, the OCM Trust Fund had provided over RM2.5 million to approximately 60 National Sports Associations and related parties with more than 130 projects benefitting from the funding.

Other initiatives that have been introduced or is in the midst of being implemented are:

• Introduction of a transparent OCM Selection Criteria for athletes to multi-sports games
• Revitalisation of the OCM Athletes Commission (AC) including provision of grants and participation of representatives from the AC at OCM’s Executive Board and Council meetings
• Enhanced dialogue sessions with the OCM Affiliates as well as related stakeholders (Ministry of Youth & Sports, the National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute and the Ministry of Education) via one-on-one meetings, workshops and forums.
• Review and revamp of the OCM Constitution
• Creation of a comprehensive database which will contain information of current and former athletes and officials who have participated in multi-sports games. The new database is currently in its final phase of testing.

Other Sporting Roles & Achievements:

• 2017 – present: President of the Badminton Association Malaysia.
  • Introduction of KPI and merit-based assessment for senior players saw the emergence of young talents such as Lee Zii Jia, Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, Thinaah Muralitharan and Pearly Tan
  • Revolutionized the development program for badminton by establishing the Badminton Academy of Malaysia (ABM) where elite junior badminton players are housed, together with their seniors, at the ABM having full-time access to the best possible facilities and with complete focus on their training.
  • Initiated the AirAsia-BAM Junior League which saw the yearly participation of over 4,000 students from 280 schools.
• 2018 – present: Board Member, National Sports Council
• 2015 – present: President, Putra Polo Club
• 2015 – 2018: Deputy President, Olympic Council of Malaysia
• 2015: Chef de Mission, Malaysian Contingent to the 28^th SEA Games Singapore 2015
  • Malaysia garnered its most medals in a SEA Games held outside Malaysia;
• 2014 – 2017: Treasurer of the Football Association of Malaysia.
  • Played significant role in the establishment of the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP), now known as the Malaysian Football League
• 2013 – 2017: Chairman of the National Sports Institute
  • Launched the Podium Program which incorporated and maximized the use of sports science, medicine and technology to provide marginal gains for our elite athletes.
• 2010 – 2017: Deputy President and Chairman of the Coaching Committee of the Badminton Association.
  • During this period, namely the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the Malaysian badminton team achieved its best performance (3 silver medals) at an Olympic Games. Team Malaysia was also runners-up at the Thomas Cup held in New Delhi, India (2014)
