Andrew W. Lehren is also back to #EVNMediaFest! He spent almost 13 years as a reporter at The New York Times, working on a range of investigative stories including the Wikileaks trove of diplomatic cables, contributed to the Pulitzer Prize-winning series that examined substandard Chinese chemicals tainting U.S. pharmaceuticals. For 15 years he was an investigative producer at NBC News, and later a senior editor on its investigative team. Lehren has won numerous awards, including a Polk, Peabody, two duPont-Columbia batons and Edward R. Murrow investigative awards, Emmys, four Investigative Reporters & Editors awards, two Overseas Press Club honors, and more.

International security expert Dr. Nerses Kopalyan will be taking the lead on the “National Security and Capacity Building” panel at #EVNMediaFest. He is an associate professor-in-residence of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has conducted extensive research on polarity, superpower relations and security studies and is the author of several books. He has also conducted extensive field work in Armenia on the country’s security architecture and its democratization process. He has written several policy papers for the Government of Armenia and has served as voluntary advisor to various state institutions.

Raffi Khatchadourian from The New Yorker is back to #EVNMediaFest 2024! He covers a wide range of topics, including science, art, politics, foreign affairs, and national security. His articles have been anthologized in “Best American Sports Writing” and in “Best American Nonrequired Reading.” On two occasions, Khatchadourian’s work was nominated for National Magazine Awards—once for his profile of an al-Qaeda propagandist, titled “Azzam the American,” and a second time in collaboration with a New Yorker multimedia team for “Secrets of Edgewood,” an investigation into Cold War psychochemical experiments. His work has also been short-listed for Overseas Press Club and James Beard Foundation awards and for the Livingston Award.

Michael Goorjian, who will be a speaker at #EVNMediaFest, is a versatile American talent, excelling as an actor, filmmaker, and writer. He won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for his compelling portrayal in “David’s Mother” (1994) alongside Kirstie Alley. Transitioning behind the camera, Michael garnered acclaim for his directorial debut, “Illusion” (2004), a poignant film he wrote, directed, and starred in, sharing the screen with Hollywood icon Kirk Douglas. He wrote, directed, and starred in the critically acclaimed “Amerikatsi” (2022). “Amerikatsi” marks a historic milestone for Armenia Cinema, as the first film submitted by Armenia to the Academy Awards® to make the Oscar Shortlist® for the category of Best International Feature.

Welcome Molly Crabapple, our next #EVNMediaFest speaker 🎉 She is a renowned artist and writer whose memoir, “Drawing Blood”, received global praise and attention. Crabapple is the co-author of “Brothers of the Gun”, an illustrated collaboration with Syrian war journalist Marwan Hisham, which was a NY Times Notable Book and long-listed for the 2018 National Book Award. Her animated films have been nominated for three Emmys and won an Edward R. Murrow Award. Her reportage has been published in the New York Times, New York Review of Books, The Paris Review, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. Crabapple’s art is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the United States Library of Congress, Columbia University and the New York Historical Society.

The #EVNMediaFest, in collaboration with Mirzoyan Library Foundation, will be bringing together photographers, editors, gallerists and different media organizations as part of the 2024 Media Festival Portfolio Review program. One-on-one sessions will help photographers articulate their voice and curate their visual language. The work presented for review will also be available for public viewing as part of an ad hoc exhibition for the duration of the day, linking talent to opportunity.
