  President’s Day observed

GABORONE - President Festus Mogae was among multitudes of Batswana who commemorating the President’s Day celebrations in Ramotswa.
The event has been rotating among villages in recent years so as to give it a national appeal rather than restrict it to Gaborone as was previously the case.
The celebration in Ramotswa kick-started on Saturday with street theatre by drama groups, boy scouts and traditional dance troupes marching from different points around the village to the main kgotla.
In the afternoon a variety show took place at Ramotswa Junior Secondary School. On Sunday attendants were treated to a breathtaking folk concert. These events culminated on Monday through a church service at the kgotla where various congregations preached the gospel and prayed for blessings for Botswana.
During welcoming remarks Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete said Ramotswa would continue to defend its title of being the cleanest village in Botswana.
She urged Balete to uphold and embrace the concept of botho so as to groom children and youth in a desirable manner. Kgosi Mosadi also advised the youth to change their attitude towards sexual intercourse so that the nation could curb the spread of HIV. Behavoral change could also enable people to live longer.
Several entertainment groups performed to the glee of multitudes who had thronged the kgotla.
In the afternoon a football final took place between Ramotswa-based Letlapeng FC and Lucky Brothers from Manyana.
Letlapeng won the match 2-0 and scooped four thousand Pula while Lucky Brothers got P3 000 and a silver medal. More than P400 000 was spent on this year’s President’s Day festivity, whose theme was “Ngwao Boleng Jwa Setshaba”. BOPA
