Health Rights Information Scotland
(HRIS) is a project funded by the Scottish Executive Health Department, and based at the Scottish Consumer Council.
With a focus on patients' rights, HRIS produce nationally consistent information for patients to be used throughout the NHS in Scotland. HRIS has recently extended its role into assisting and supporting organisations and individuals within the NHS to produce effective information for patients. The Equality Web Resource was launched on the 27th February. This searchable database of statistics, economics and research was developed by Health Department Analytical Services Division in partnership with a range of other organisations across Scotland, in order to support work on equalities from equality impact assessment to the new duties on public bodies. This resource provides a breakdown of what information is available on age, gender, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, transgender, and religion/ belief from a range of organisations across Scotland including the Scottish Executive, Information Services Division (ISD), Health Protection Scotland and Health Boards. It provides web links to published documents, information on work in progress and the details of who to contact for more information. Fair For All - Gender is helping to support the NHS in Scotland to mainstream gender equality considerations into planning and delivery and ensure the health service meets its obligations under the new public sector Gender Equality Duty, which comes into place on 6th April 2007. Officially launched on 24th October 2006 by Dr Kevin Woods, the Head of the Scottish Executive Health Department and Chief Executive of NHSScotland, the good practice guidance has been developed by the Fair for All – Disability team, to assist all staff within NHSScotland to understand and meet their responsibilities under Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act. Part 3 covers rights of access to goods, services, facilities and premises for disabled people. The publication is a comprehensive online document providing both information about policies, practices and procedures, and also practical advice including checklists, case studies and photographs. The Emergency Care Summary Leaflet is the first in a series of leaflets to let the public know about changes to the way the NHS in Scotland store health records. The leaflet informs you about something new - the Emergency Care Summary Record - which all patients in Scotland will soon have and the benefits it will bring. This site contains the Patient Pathways developed by the SEHD Centre for Change and Innovation for NHSScotland. The Patient Pathways cover around 80 conditions and provide GPs with information on: diagnostic tips, management tips, referral criteria and follow up options. They can also be used as an educational tool and provide sources of patient information.
