The results of the national population census in 2009

The population of the Republic of Kazakhstan by the results of 2009 population census was following: 16009,6 thousand people.

In the inter-census period the population of Kazakhstan increased on 1028,3 thousand  people and in comparison with the previous census in1999 the population growth were to 6,9 %.

The urban population was 8662,4 thousand people, rural population was 7347,2 thousand  people. The urban population increased to 206,6 thousand  people or to 2,4 %, and rural - to 821,7 thousand  people or to 12,6 %. The share of the urban population in the country was 54,1 %, rural - 45,9 %, in 1999 their share was 56,4 % and 43,6 % accordingly. The most urbanized regions were Karaganda (the urban population here is more than 77,5 %), Pavlodar (68 %) and Aktyubinsk (61 %). The rural population is concentrated in Almaty (76,9 % from the whole population), North Kazakhstan (60,2 %), Kyzylorda (58,1 %) and Zhambyl (60,4 %) regions, basically.

Males population was 7712,2 thousand, female one - 8297,4 thousand people. Males population in comparison with the previous census had increased by 496,8 thousand people or to 6,9 %; Females population increased by 531,5 thousand  people or on 6,8 %. The sex ratio showed the prevalence of females over males (51,8 % and 48,2 % accordingly). By the censuses in 1999 and 2009 the sex ratio was 929 males per 1000 females.

The change of quantify ethnical groups in inter-census period is characterized by the following data:

In comparison with the previous census the number of Kazakhs increased by 26,0 % and were 10096,8 thousand  people. The number of Uzbeks increased by 23,3 % and were 457,0 thousand  people, the Uigurs - to 6,8 %, were 224,7 thousand  people. The number of the Russians decreased to 15,3 % an were 3793,8 thousand  people; the Germans - on 49,5 %, were178,4 thousand  people; the Ukrainians - to 39,1 %, were 333,0 thousand  people; Tatars - on 18,0 %, were204,2 thousand  people; other ethnic groups - to 4,8 %, were 721,7 thousand  people.

The share of the Kazakhs in the whole population of the country were 63,1 %, the Russians - 23,7 %, the Uzbeks - 2,9 %, the Ukrainians - 2,1 %, the Uigurs - 1,4 %, the Tatars - 1,3 %, the Germans - 1,1 %, and other ethnic groups - 4,5 %.

The number of citizens of the Republic Kazakhstan were 15850,7 thousand  (99,0 % from the whole population of the country), citizens of other states - 101,6 thousand  (0,6 %) and without citizenship - 57,3 thousand (0,4 %).

In Kazakhstan from the whole population 11237,9 thousand or 70,2 % people showed Islam as creed, the Christianity - 4190,1 thousand  (26,2 %), the Judaism - 5,3 thousand (0,0 %), the Buddhism - 14,6 thousand (0,1 %) and another - 30,1 thousand  (0,2 %). As non-believers were called - 2,8 % (450,5 thousand people) and have refused to specify 0,5 % (81,0 thousand people).

The number of population of Kazakhstan on first October in 2010 had counted 16372 thousand people with taking into account population census data by operative data. The number of Kazakhs was 10458 thousand people, and their share in the whole population of the country were 63,1 %.
