Zimbabwe

PhilippinesThe humanitarian situation has improved in Zimbabwe since 2009, but conditions remain precarious for many people. An estimated 6 million people (half of the population) are considered vulnerable. The degradation of health and social services continues to undermine the country’s ability to cope with economic shocks, and these can rapidly turn into crises. Zimbabwe has the fourth-highest crude-mortality rate in Africa and one of the highest HIV/AIDs prevalence rates in the world.

Since 2006, OCHA has been supporting the Government and the international system with disaster preparedness and humanitarian response. In 2012, OCHA aims to work closely with Government, aid and development partners to help reduce acute vulnerability with well-coordinated humanitarian action. OCHA will work with partners to ensure a successful transition to early recovery and longer-term development assistance by the end of 2013, provided the overall situation in Zimbabwe improves.
