In October 2007, US Airways ordered 22 Airbus A350 aircraft, Airbus’ answer to the Boeing 787. On Friday, the order was revised.

In an filing Friday, American Airlines – which merged with US Airways on Dec. 9 – said that the company and Airbus have amended the agreement to state that its 22 A350s will be A350-900s. Deliveries will begin in 2017.

The revised order skews the AA order book for the A350 to the larger size. As originally announced on Oct. 4, 2007, 18 were to be the smaller A350-800s with only four to be the A350-900s.

The A350-900 will be the first of that family to be delivered to airlines, with that type sandwiched between the A350-800 and A350-1000. Airbus says the A350-900 would carry 315 passengers in a two-class configuration, with a range of up to 7,750 nautical miles, or about 8,900 miles.

Originally, US Airways was to get its first A350 in 2014. In 2009, it announced the schedule had slipped to 2017, with all to arrive by the end of 2019.
