Young Oak Kim Academy
Young Oak Kim, born in Los Angeles on January 29, 1919, was a highly decorated U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the U.S. 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. His skills and dedication led to victories in many battles and missions. Colonel Kim was awarded 19 medals, including the Distinguished Service Cross. In 1972, after serving 30 years in the Army, Kim retired but actively participated in Asian-American community affairs. Kim played a key role in establishing many different foundations such as Go For Broke Education. Colonel Kim passed away on December 29, 2010, but his impact and legacy continues to flourish.
