Albania is located in south Eastern Europe, Albania is bordered by Greece, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia. Albania is a potential candidate for membership in the European Union, and has also joined the NATO (North American Treaty Organization) alliance. Albania has sent peacekeepers to the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and Chad. Following the global financial crisis, specifically the crises in Greece and Italy (Albania's main trading partners), Albania's economic growth has cooled significantly as a result in recent years. (2014) Although Albania's growth has slowed tourism is expanding rapidly and foreign investments are becoming more common as the government continues the modernization of Albania's institutions.
