Office of the President

Vision:

A united, peaceful, prosperous and progressive South Sudan, led by a visionary , exemplary, responsive and accountable leadership, in which the rule of law and human rights are upheld, with transparent and efficient government accountable to the people at all levels.

Mission:
To enable the President and the overall Office of the president to provide dynamic leadership in realizing the vision of a united and peaceful South Sudan, through the development of coherent policy, quality strategies and effective programmes, and by fostering good partnership and improved working relationships and intergovernmental coordination.

Functions:

The mandate of the Ministry as a facilitating institution is to establish an effective and efficient institution of the Office of the President capable of:

  • Realising the ministry’s vision;
  • Upholding and implementing the CPA, and looking ahead to the post-CPA period;
  • Consolidating peace and creating a secure and stable political environment for socio-economic development;
  • Initiating a comprehensive process of national reconciliation and healing;
  • Inculcating a culture of peace, unity and tolerance;
  • Mobilising popular energies and resources for reconstruction, development and wealth creation;
  • Promoting national unity and commanding national loyalty through an inclusive and representative government at all levels;
  • Combating corruption and poverty, attaining the Millennium Development Goals, promoting more equitable distribution of wealth, redressing development imbalances and achieving a decent standard of life.

Structure:
The Vice President works under the president and does not have a separate mandate outside the presidency.

The Ministry is organised into six directorates as below:

  • Directorate of Policy, Research and Monitoring;
  • Directorate of Special Programmes;
  • Directorate of inter-Governmental Relations;
  • Directorate of Communications and Public Relations;
  • Directorate of Finance and Administration;
  • Directorate of Security and Protection.

The ministry also works with Presidential Advisors on strategic issues and with specialised councils and research institutions.
