Three crewmembers on container vessel test positive for COVID-19

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Three of the 17 crew members of the container vessel, Fesco Askold, which sailed into the Port of Pago Pago on Sunday, have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

“This is not a false positive. This is an actual positive confirm COVID-19 for the thee people on the vessel,” Health Department Epidemiologist Dr. Aifili John Tufa during a news conference Sunday night.

The crew members are now in quarantine and none of the crew members are allowed to come off the shiip.

He explained that the container vessel left California, heading straight to Tahiti, and sailed to Samoa before sailing to American Samoa.
