The Hong Kong Tourism Board has cancelled its four-day Lunar New Year carnival, which was set to be held from January 25 to 28 at the Art Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District, as a result of the Wuhan coronavirus that has now reached the city.

The announcement was made by Chief Secretary for Administration Matthew Cheung in a late-night press conference offering updates about the pneumonia-linked virus.

The board said in its official statement that the decision was a result of the concern towards the health and safety of local citizens, international visitors, performing groups and working staff, and they will be informed with relevant arrangements via different channels.

The authority also expressed apologies regarding the cancellation of the event, which was well received by sponsors, partners, international and local performing groups and exhibitors.

To address the enquires regarding the canceled four-day activity, the service hours of the visitor online of the board has been lengthened from 9am–6pm to 9am–9pm.
