Building peace in the minds of women and men
About us
UNESCO - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was founded on 16 November 1945. For this specialized United Nations agency, it is not enough to build classrooms in devastated countries or to publish scientific breakthroughs. Education, Social and Natural Science, Culture and Communication are the means to a far more ambitious goal : to build peace in the minds of women and men.

United by sport: the Olympic values passed on to the younger generations! During the latest #UNESCOCampus XL, more than 730 students gathered for an exchange with three athletes on how #Sport can change lives and the society. Friendship, respect, coexistence...students discovered how sport is much more than a competition: it is a vector of peace, inclusion, and hope for a better future. Thanks to the support of Fondation ENGIE, and to Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 and Olympic Refuge Foundation for their collaboration. Gnawa Jazz celebrates the cultural and artistic ties between the people of Morocco, Europe and Africa. Gnawa refers to a set of musical events, performances and therapeutic rituals that mix the secular with the sacred. This important cultural element was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019, highlighting its profound cultural significance on a global scale. Gnawa’s fusion with Jazz rhythms has served as a tool for peace and cultural exchange around the globe. Today, we are thrilled to present a special live broadcast from the UNESCO headquarters in Paris! In anticipation of International Jazz Day festivities on April 30th in Tangier Morocco, we are pleased to showcase a band that epitomizes the essence of jazz. Join us as Aziz Sahmaoui and the University of Gnawa, featuring Adhil Mirghani, Cheikh Diallo, and Amen Viana, deliver a two-part concert. The first part comprises a traditional Gnawa performance, while the second presents a synthesized rendition. Let's come together as we pay tribute to the rich heritage of Gnawa and the transformative power of jazz! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dxVe-peX #JazzDay #Jazz

Girls and women have less access to digital devices and the Internet compared to boys and men, especially in lower-income and rural areas. For instance, 81% of men and 75% of women owned a mobile phone device in 2023. This disparity affects girls' ability to benefit from digital educational resources and online learning platforms. We must empower young girls by giving them full access to technologies and digital skills 👉 https://lnkd.in/dc28Xvwe #GirlsInICT GEM Report UNESCO
