How Big Was the Soviet GDP?

Abstract

With the recent completion of calculations for 1990, the multilateral program for compiling comparative GDP estimates that was initiated in the 1970s has now been extended to the USSR, and provides a fresh perspective on the dimensions of that country's economy. This essay assesses summarily the measures that have been compiled for the USSR, comparing them with the controversial CIA data.
