MKER-1000

The MKER-1000 reactor is a next step in development of pressure-tube reactor facilities in Russia. The performance and safety level of this reactor meet the current requirements for NPPs planned to be built early in the 21st century. The MKER-1000 development relies on 50-year experience in design and operation of domestic pressure-tube reactors with the total service record of about 500 reactor-years.

Design distinctions:

  • passive safety features depending for their operation on natural laws of physics;
  • reinforced concrete containment;
  • on-load refuelling which ensures consumers against interruptions in energy and heat supply;
  • equipment for production of a broad spectrum of isotopes employed in medicine, research and industry, and irradiation facilities for modification of material properties.
