Israel’s high court unique in region
Sunday, September 9, 2007 -
Israel’s Supreme Court has ordered the government to move the barrier between Israel and the West Bank because it cut off an Arab village, Bilin, from its 500 acres of cropland. Can anyone imagine such a ruling anywhere else in the Middle East?
It isn’t the first time the court has ordered the barrier rerouted, though the government has won the great bulk of about 100 court challenges. And there’s no doubt the Defense Ministry, which is in charge of the construction, will comply again - it said it was “studying the ruling and will respect it.”
