The UNPFII side event ‘advocating for the visibility, rights and self-determination of mobile Indigenous peoples’ also included a Kyrgyz herdsman, who opened the session with a moving traditional blessing, a Mongolian herdsman, Maasai and Saami representatives, and a Bedouin camel herder from Morocco. A fascinating event, which we were proud to attend during the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York!

It is so empowering to see representatives of the world's indigenous communities raise their voices, come together, share experiences and get stronger together! 🤩 💪

Rodopchanka Women’s Club in Smolyan, Bulgaria, empowers minority women through the ‘Legal Empowerment and Advocacy for Minority Women’ project, funded by MRG's MARIO programme. *REPORTING FROM THE UNPFII* Participants from Brazil get ready for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in the UN General Assembly hall in New York. Indigenous organizations are listed as civil society organizations (CSOs), but in the words of one representative from Canada's First Nations, 'We are NOT NGOs. We ARE the government. We have been for centuries.' In another instance, a woman from Vietnam pointed out: 'We are not ethnic minorities'. We are in New York for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues! We're sharing a few photos and videos from that crucial venue where the world's indigenous communities come together, share experiences and get stronger together.
