We campaign worldwide to ensure that the voices of minorities and indigenous peoples are heard.
About us
Minority Rights Group International campaigns worldwide with almost 300 partners in 60 countries to ensure that disadvantaged minorities and indigenous peoples, often the poorest of the poor, can make their voices heard. We understand how discrimination based on age, class, gender and disability can have a multiple impact on disadvantaged minorities, and our campaigns target governments and communities to eradicate such attitudes. Through training and education, legal cases, publications and cultural programmes we support indigenous people and minorities as they strive to maintain their rights – to the land they live on, the languages they speak, to equal opportunities in education and employment, and to full participation in public life.

🚨 We raised the alarm over escalating violence against Bedouin communities in the West Bank. Settler attacks and forced displacement threaten Palestinian livelihoods and rights. It is imperative to address these violations of international law and protect affected communities. #Palestine #HumanRights

*REPORTING FROM THE UNPFII* Ricardina Pacco Ccapa (centre right in red), an Alpaca herdswoman from the Peruvian highlands, expresses the challenges and concerns of Andean peoples directly to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, José Francisco Calí Tsay (bottom left corner). The UNPFII side event ‘advocating for the visibility, rights and self-determination of mobile Indigenous peoples’ also included a Kyrgyz herdsman, who opened the session with a moving traditional blessing, a Mongolian herdsman, Maasai and Saami representatives, and a Bedouin camel herder from Morocco. A fascinating event, which we were proud to attend during the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York!

*REPORTING FROM THE UNPFII* Last week, Chief Jake Edwards, an Indigenous elder of the Onondaga nation, delivered a speech in the Onondaga language at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) opening ceremony in the UN General Assembly hall in New York. It is so empowering to see representatives of the world's indigenous communities raise their voices, come together, share experiences and get stronger together! 🤩 💪

*REPORTING FROM THE UNPFII* Participants from Brazil get ready for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in the UN General Assembly hall in New York. Indigenous organizations are listed as civil society organizations (CSOs), but in the words of one representative from Canada's First Nations, 'We are NOT NGOs. We ARE the government. We have been for centuries.' In another instance, a woman from Vietnam pointed out: 'We are not ethnic minorities'. We are in New York for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues! We're sharing a few photos and videos from that crucial venue where the world's indigenous communities come together, share experiences and get stronger together. We'll keep posting news and updates!

With the Egyptian Front for Human Rights (EFHR), we presented a comprehensive report to the UN Committee of the Rights of the Child, shedding light on the human rights status of children in Egypt. Focused on minorities like Nubians, Amazigh, Bedouins, Christians, Baháʼís, and more, the report aims to amplify their voices and advocate for their rights.
