William (Bill) Gerald Boal.

1913? - 1970

Sentence: 24 years.

An engineer who was aged 50 at the time; William Boal was most likely never involved in the robbery. Bruce Reynolds and the rest of the gang were all unanimous is stating that Boal had never been part of the robbery or the gang.

William (Bill) Gerald BoalIt was just unfortunate that he was a friend of Roger Cordrey. The most he should have been charged with was receiving stolen goods or helping to hide Cordrey which would have got him a sentence of 4 to 5 years. Detective Superintendent Fewtrell and Jack Slipper were also convinced that Boal was innocent; however he was arrested in possession of £141,000 and jailed for 24 years.

His sentence was reduced to 14 on appeal; however Boal sadly died from cancer in prison in 1970.
