Charlie Wilson (Charles Frederick Wilson).

30/06/1932 - 23/04/1990

Sentence: 30 Years, 25 for Conspiracy to Rob, 5 for Armed Robbery.

Charlie Wilson was childhood friends with many of the gang members; Bruce Reynolds, Jimmy Hussey, Tommy Wisbey and Gordon Goody. Later on he met Buster Edwards and Roy James.

Charlie Wilson (Charles Frederick Wilson)Wilson was 31 at the time of the robbery and played the role of ‘treasurer’ – dividing the shares up and distributing them to the gang members.

Described as ‘The Silent Man’ because he refused to speak throughout his trial, Wilson was sentenced to 30 years in jail but proceeded to escape after just 4 months. He fled to Quebec, Canada with his family, and for Christmas 1964 met up with Reynolds and Edwards, both of whom were yet to be caught.

Wilson was re-captured when his wife called her family in England, and Scotland Yard was able to trace the call. Back in England Wilson was sent to jail for a further 10 years, before finally being released in 1978.

Wilson eventually moved to Marbella, Spain, after becoming suspect in a £100million gold fraud. In April 1990, a messenger knocked on the door of Wilson’s villa in Spain and shot both him and his pet dog at point blank range.

Many of the original gang members attended his funeral.
